KOTTAYAM: The bodies of the tourist couple who were trampled to death by a wild elephant in Gavi will be flown to Gujarat on Friday. The bodies which were kept in the morgue of a private hospital at Thellakom near here were subjected to post-mortem at the Government Medical College Hospital here on Thursday.

The victims -- Bhupendra Raval (52) and wife Jagruti (50) -- were killed by the elephant while they were trekking in a cardamom plantation in Gavi in Pathanamthitta district on Wednesday.

The couple hails from Thaltej in Ahmedabad. Bhupendra was a deputy general manager with a German company in Ahmedabad while Jagruti was a senior scientist in Indian Space Research Organization.

The embalmed bodies were taken to the Nedumbassery airport on Thursday evening. They will be airlifted from there to Ahmedabad via Mumbai by a 9am flight on Friday.

Few relatives of the couple and colleagues of Raval had arrived here from Gujarat on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) has stopped all its tourism programmes in Gavi for two days, following the mishap. The couple had gone on a trekking programme conducted by the KFDC.
