UCKNOW: Protesting the Centre's infringement of the state government's right to secure passenger areas at railway stations, CM Akhilesh Yadav registered the government's protest in a letter to Railway minister Suresh Prabhu. Referring to the inclusion of Section 12 A in the Railway Suraksha Bal Act, 1957 as illegal and intrusive on the state's right, Akhilesh said the Centre did not have the powers to authorize SSB personnel to maintain law and order in passenger areas at railway stations. He also opposed the Centre's decision to setup police outposts for SSB.

In a separate letter to PM Narendra Modi, Akhilesh asked the Centre to release Rs 76 crore dues to UP under the Centrally-sponsored Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). He also said the Centre should, in view of the large youth population in UP, upgrade five state degree colleges to model degree college.
