KANNUR: Police have named MLA James Mathew as an accused in the case of suicide of a higher secondary school headmaster at Thaliparamba here. The MLA has applied for anticipatory bail. E P Sasidharan, headmaster of Tagore Vidyaniketan, committed suicide on December 15, after writing a suicide note blaming a colleague and the MLA.

Alakkode circle inspector A V John said they had named M V Shaji, a teacher at the school, and James Mathew, as the first and second accused in the case.

Police had submitted a report in Thalassery sessions court, mentioning the names of the two accused, on January 5. They named the two as accused under Section 306 IPC in another report submitted in the court on Monday. The MLA's anticipatory bail came up for hearing on Tuesday. Advocate Nicholas Joseph, who appeared for James Mathew, said the argument would continue on Wednesday also.
