KOCHI: Kerala distributor of thermal-massaging machines, made by South Korea-based Ceragem, has approached the Kerala High Court questioning an unofficial ban allegedly imposed by Thiruvananthapuram district administration.

The petition was filed by B Sureshkumar, proprietor of New Life Healthcare Centre at Attakulangara in Thiruvananthapuram.

Potential customers are given free trial sessions lasting 40 minutes each on the massagers, which cost between Rs1.35 lakh and Rs2.35 lakh. The company or the distributor never claims treatment of any disease or ailment through the products, the petition filed through advocate MR Rajesh said.

It is alleged by the Ceragem distributor that Thiruvananthapuram district collector orally directed him on January 8th to stop the free trial activity until further orders. On January 13th, the district medical officer visited the distributor's sales outlet and sealed it on the allegation that the operation is illegal and that patients were being attended and treatment was being given at the outlet, the petition said.

Questioning the lockdown, the distributor is seeking a court directive to Thiruvananthapuram district collector and district medical officer not to interfere with his business of free trial marketing. The petition by the Ceragem distributor is expected to come up for admission hearing on Tuesday.
