BENGALURU: Even as the BJP is sharpening its knives against chief minister Siddaramaiah on the Arkavathy land denotification issue, Congress workers are gearing up to raise many issues at the three-day meeting in Bengaluru from January 29. The session will discuss how to turn the party's fortunes at the national level.

The meeting follows AICC president Sonia Gandhi's letter to all state unit heads to send feedback by February after consulting party workers on how to "revive and resurrect" the Congress. Workers plan to use the occasion, where general secretary Digvijay Singh will be present, to air issues ranging from delay in filling four cabinet berths to overhauling the KPCC executive which has 43 vacancies, the dalit card being played for the CM's post and unhappiness among chairpersons of boards and corporations who haven't been given official status.

The sudden summons to Siddaramaiah to meet Sonia and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday fuelled speculation that these issues would be discussed. As the call came late Wednesday evening, the CM took a special flight Thursday morning. However, fog both in Bengaluru and New Delhi resulted in his flight being delayed by an hour.

Courtesy call, says CM: After the meeting, the CM said it was only a courtesy call and the appointment he had sought for January 7 to meet Sonia had been rescheduled to Thursday.

Congress workers are unhappy that the return to power after nine years has not benefited them. Their grouse is while the CM is too preoccupied in governance, party president G Parameshwara is inaccessible.

Party sources said the three-day meeting would also discuss steps to be taken by the high command to correct the impression that it has been appeasing the minorities. The districts units heads have also been asked to assess the ministers hailing from their region, which will be compiled and sent to the high command in February.
