JAIPUR: A single judge bench of Rajasthan high court has sought an explanation from the state and Central ministry for youth affairs and sports about the discriminate cash prize given to Krishna Poonia and Jagseer Singh.

As alleged by petitioner Jagseer Singh, an Arjun awardee, he was discriminated against where cash prize for Olympic medalists for 2012 was concerned. Hanuman Choudhary, the petitioner's counsel said that Singh had participated in 2012Paralympics in London and was positioned sixth in the long jump event. He was offered a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh while Poonia who stood seventh in London Olympics was given a cash reward of Rs 21 lakh by the state government."Krishna was also given the ticket to contest the present assembly elections from Rajgarh. The petitioner refused to accept his cash prize and demanded equal treatment. The rules say that participants of Paralympics and Olympics will be treated at par for any cash prizeor benefits ensuing from their achievements," argued Choudhary.

Taking note of the submissions Justice M Rafiq issued show cause notices to principal sports secretary, Centre and the state and also to the state sports council to file their responses to the contentions raised by the petitioner.
