CHANDIGARH: The Digital India Week in Chandigarh finally kicked off with the launch of e-Stamping in the city, as UT's adviser to the administrator, Vijay Kumar Dev, on Thursday launched the e-Stamping service from the e-Sampark centre of Sector 21. In the first phase, the facility will be available at 10 e-Sampark centres.

The service is a computer-based application, and a secured electronic way of stamping the non-judicial stamp papers. This would replace the prevailing system of a physical stamp paper in the city in a phased manner. On this occasion, Dev said: "This initiative is a game-changer to facilitate good governance and eradicate malpractices related to the physical stamp paper. This service is easily available to city residents at no additional cost and no waiting period. It will make revenue transactions safe and secure."

To avail this service, a citizen needs to visit any e-Sampark/GramSampark centre or urban kiosks and fill the application form with details of the stamp duty amount required. Upon submission, the e-Sampark operators will handover the e-Stamp certificate with a unique identification number to the citizen. Under e-Stamping, the required face value alone has to be paid, with no additional charges. Besides, it can be purchased by paying cash or demand draft. This system will curb stamp paper shortage, leakages, and frauds.

E-Stamp papers will be instantly computer-generated, which means there will be no supply glitches, they will be tamper-proof, and the administration can save money, which it puts into procuring and transportation of these stamp papers. The facility will be available in the kiosk of the DC office in Sector 17, besides the e-Sampark centres of sectors 21, 7, 10, 17 (near Treasury), 18, 23, 40, 43, and 47.
