LUCKNOW: Dense fog in the morning disrupted rail, air and road traffic and led to drop in maximum temperature across the state on Monday. Weatherman predicted similar conditions for the next two days but added that rain or thunder showers may occur in west UP and eastern parts may witness cloudy sky on Thursday.

In Lucknow, maximum temperature dropped to 18.1 degrees celsius, four degrees below normal. Minimum temperature, however, was 10 degrees celsius, three degrees above normal. Thick dense fog enveloped the city in the morning. Foggy conditions continued till noon. Though afternoon was sunny, strong icy winds kept the chill alive.

State Met director JP Gupta said moisture left behind after rains condensed into fog due to icy winds coming from snow clad mountains. "Similar conditions will prevail for next two days. A western disturbance is approaching, which may cause rains/thundershowers and overcast sky after two days," he predicted.

While cold wave (when minimum temperature five degrees below normal) prevailed in west UP, cold day conditions (minimum temperature five degrees below normal) prevailed in central UP. Najibabad recorded lowest minimum temperature 2.8 degrees celsius and Kanpur recorded lowest maximum temperature 14.8 degrees celsius.
