LUCKNOW: Congress will go back to the drawing board in Rae Bareli as well. On a two-day tour of Sonia Gandhi's parliamentary constituency, daughter and Rae Bareli overseer Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said she will visit each of the 950 gram sabhas in the constituency once she completes the organisational reshuffle of the Rae Bareli unit.

Priyanka, who arrived in the parliamentary constituency on Thursday afternoon, met various levels of Congress functionaries on Thursday and sought their feedback on problems they faced since the last such exercise in December 2012. In hour-long meetings with the district, city and block committees, Priyanka quizzed party functionaries on Congress-run policies or schemes that did not find favour with the masses, or those that were announced but could not be implemented properly. She also asked for feedback on people who didn't perform, apart from systemic concerns, if any. Asking people to voice their problems openly, she said that her aim, through the two-day meetings, was to hear the problems party functionaries were facing, and to rectify them.

On Thursday, Priyanka also met block presidents in Rae Bareli, UP Pradesh Congress Committee functionaries from the district, and former MLAs in the parliamentary constituency. "It was essentially a stock-taking exercise that will lead to the announcement of new office bearers at various levels," a party functionary said.

In the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Priyanka had undertaken a similar exercise in Rae Bareli, handholding the entire reorganization in place of mother Sonia Gandhi. During the Lok Sabha elections, she had also campaigned heavily for both Sonia and brother Rahul Gandhi, whose Amethi units she had also formed and groomed.

Sources in the Congress said Priyanka will continue to seek feedback from Rae Bareli's people and senior Congress functionaries on Friday, before heading back to New Delhi. The Congress scion has promised party workers, however, that she will return to the constituency more often henceforth and spend time interacting with the masses. Among other things, the Rae Bareli unit also decided on Thursday to step up the agitation against the NDA government's land ordinance, which has adversely affected many farmers in Rae Bareli as well. Between January 19 and 22, party functionaries will hold a series of sit-ins and protests at every block and district headquarter.
