Krishnamurthy, a small-time businessman from Tumakuru district, lost control of his two-wheeler when a dog crossed his path when he was returning home after dropping his daughter to the %tuition class.

Krishnamurthy was referred to Nimhans and then to Pradhana Manthri Swastya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) Bangalore Medical College and Research Centre superspecialty hospital. He suffered from severe traumatic brain injury and was declared brain dead on Thursday morning.

The family was ready to donate his organs. While the heart valve and liver were given to Narayana Hrudayala, the kidneys were given to the Institute of Nephro-urology and Suguna Hospital. The transplant operations were conducted successfully.

"The doctor said he was brain dead and a ventilator could help him live for a couple of days. When they told us about organ donation, we thought he'd at least live through four different people. We're now hoping to raise some funds for the education of his two children," said his younger brother Ragunath.
