BATHINDA: There's uneasy calm at Salabatpura, the biggest branch of Dera Sacha Sauda, situated on Barnala-Bajakhana road in Bathinda district. Apprehending trouble due to the likely release of dera head's movie 'Messenger of God', security has been tightened around the dera branch complex.

"Security has been beefed around Salabatpura and other dera branches. Police are on high alert," said Bathinda senior superintendent of police Inder Mohan Singh. Around 120 personnel of Punjab Armed Police and Rapid Action Force have been deployed and a couple of nakas set up on way to the dera.

Not much activity was seen at the dera branch on Friday. With many of followers away to Gurgaon for the film's premiere, only a few were seen there. Salabatpura dera branch in-charge Jora Singh said an unnecessary issue was being created over the film release. "It is a religious movie and spreads the message of equality. Anyone opposing it should see it first and then react."

The branch had come into limelight in 2007, when dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had wore a dress similar to the attire of the 10th Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh. Enraged over his action, members of the Sikh community had staged violent protests across Punjab. At the height of clashes among dera followers and Sikhs, the latter had tried to damage the Salabatpura branch.
