JAIPUR: Congress candidates from six of the state's seven administrative divisions have been summoned to the party headquarters on Tuesday, as the party high command wants to assess its prospects about forming the next government.

AICC general secretary in-charge Gurudas Kamat, PCC chief Chandrabhan, party's election campaign committee chairman C P Joshi and chief minister Ashok Gehlot would take feedback from each of the Congress candidates on a one-on-one basis, said sources. Except for those from the Jaipur division, party candidates from rest of the state have been asked to positively reach for the day-long review meeting.

The party headquarters, however, wore a deserted look on the day after the polling. Till mid day, there was hardly anyone except the office employees. The few office-bearers who reached in the afternoon were seen huddled in dingy rooms.

Their stony silence and long blank gazes despite being in company was seen as reflective of their expectations from the election results to be declared on December 8. The silences were occasionally broken whenever a reporter entered the room.

The party office-bearers tried hard to look cheerful and argue how the high polling in the state would go in their favour. In the assembly elections held on Sunday, the state recorded the highest voting percentage so far with the figures reaching above 75%.

The Congress and the BJP leaders were interpreting the unprecedented high polling in their respective favour. Congressmen believed the soaring voting was because of its traditional voters who wanted to keep the BJP and its prime ministerial as well as the chief ministerial candidates at bay. The BJP leaders, on the other hand, saw the high polling percentage as indicative of the people's strong urge for a change in governance.
