JAIPUR: Two engineering students were killed when the bike they were riding on lost balance allegedly due to overspeeding and hit a divider in Paldi Meena area on Monday morning. The police said that these students were not wearing helmets due to which they sustained serious head injuries. They were rushed to SMS Hospital where they died while undergoing treatment.

According to the police, the incident took place in Paldi Meena area around 8.30 am. The deceased were identified as Himanshu Kumar (20), a resident of Ayodhya Nagar on Agra Road, and Surya Prakash (21), belonging to Mangal Vihar also on Agra Road. Both were BTech first year students in a Kanota-based engineering college, police said.

"Himanshu and Surya Praksh were on their way to college on Monday morning when the mishap occurred. During preliminary investigation, it has come up that the bike was overspeeding. The students were not wearing helmet also," said a police officer.

The officer added that both the students were thrown onto the road and sustained serious injuries on their heads. "Some passers-by called the '108' ambluence and also informed the police. A team rushed to the spot. The students were taken directly to SMS Hospital due to their critical condition. They died in the ICU," said the officer.

The police handed over the bodies to family members after postmortem. "Further investigation is on to ascertain the causes of the mishap," said the officer.
